Today, on this blessed Jum'ah, I was graced with the opportunity to host Sunnatul Hayaat's very first sisters' iftar potluck during this beautiful Ramadan. I invited a large group of sisters. Upon their entrance at the door, a couple of sisters who helped tremendously with setting up also helped me get the sisters to each sit down to write down their favorite quote, ayat (Quranic verse), or hadith on a slip of paper, fold it up, and put it into this jar. After iftar (which was filled with a delicious array of food) and maghrib prayer, we gathered together in a circle and each pulled a saying from the jar, going around one at a time to share and discuss the quote/hadith/ayat. Many were motivational, some were sobering, some were thought-provoking, others were beautifully inspiring.
Some of the slips read: Below (in the white space) is a recording (which will automatically play) of some of the sisters' quotes/hadiths/ayats who did not mind having their voices recorded for the purpose of sharing knowledge, motivation and reminders with each other. A sister who is newer to Islam had received a slip of paper with the shahada on it, and it was beautiful to hear her shy but strong proclamation. Some of the other quotes, hadiths, and ayats included (some without citation of verse numbers/narrators):
Alhamdulillah, today was a beautiful experience and a start, inshaAllah, to a series of gatherings and halaqas for us all to gain knowledge, share our experiences, and grow as a community of sisters.
I hope that the sisters who were unable to make it today can make it next time inshaAllah, whenever that may turn out to be! May Allah guide us and this newly developing sisterhood, filling it with purity, support, care, love, and respect. May we each be amongst the righteous Believers, Ameen!! May Allah protect us and our loved ones, ameen!
