6 Pillars of Imaan
Imaan (إيمان) means faith.
Imam ash-Shafi'i said, “Imaan has three components: to believe in the heart, testify with the tongue and verify with deeds. He who does not meet with the first condition (but meets with the second and third) is a hypocrite. He who does not come up with the second is an unbeliever. And he who misses the third is a faasiq (فاسق), an evil-doer who will enter the Fire, but will not abide there forever.”
"It (imaan) is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Last Day, and in qadar (fate), both the bad and the good in it." This is the basis for saying that iman has six pillars or branches.
