Salaat – Prayer
- 5 times a day = waajib (obligatory)
- When the prophet ascended to the heavens during Isra wa Miraj, he met Prophet Musa who advised him to ask Allah to reduce the amounts of prayers prescribed upon the ummah from 50 to something significantly less as his own nation was unable to handle that many prayers. This went on for a while until the Prophetﷺ attained 5 prayers for the Muslim ummah.
- The 5 prayers include:
- Fajr (dawn)
- Dhuhr (noon)
- ‘Asr (afternoon/midday)
- Maghrib (sunset)
- Isha (evening/night)
- There are many Sunnah prayers to be discussed in future sessions.
- Prayer is so important in our lives as Muslims. It is the defining factor between a believer and a disbeliever.
- It establishes our link to Allah, our Creator, Lord of the Worlds. How magnificent is that?
- It is a direct method of communication and worship to our Lord.
- Prayer strengthens our imaan, calms our hearts, restores the peace in us. It gives us balance and harmony. It is the answer to our burdens—it is turning to Allah.
- Beauty of prayer – that we were blessed with the prescribed 5 daily prayers, as the prayers are all at different times of the day and are spaced in such a manner that we are able to continually reflect upon ourselves and take time from our day to worship Allah.
